Quel Surprise! KFC is finally haulting their free chicken promotion. Let’s retrace their steps and see where they went wrong. A)they distributed coupons which could be easily copied and reused B) they created an unreasonably long period of time during which customers could collect free food C) they paired up with Oprah, Queen and high priestess of all that is promotion to pimp their plan D) they offered free food during the Greatest Recession E) they didn’t anticipate the combination of free food + horrible economy + lot’s of unemployed people = riots and F) THEY RAN OUT OF CHICKEN RIGHT BEFORE MOTHER’S DAY, which, sadly, is apparently their MOST POPULAR WEEKEND! I think that last bit might be the saddest. Who takes their mom to KFC’S???? If you REALLY loved your mother, you’d take her to POPEYES! Personally, I think KFC is gross…doesn’t help that everytime I see one I flash back to that video of the rat infested on on Weat 4th… … … … I’m back. That shit was Naaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhh-stea! The point is, Popeyes is way better…as evidenced by recent news stories that detail a woman behind mugged for her popeyes AND a riot caused by $5 chicken. Popeyes is SO good that they don’t even need to offer their chicken for FREE to cause a riot. Nuff said.
Make something for her! Here’s a collection of how-to’s for all of Mom’s needs. Lip stuff, picture frames, lotions, bath fizzies, etc. You name it-it’s here. I listed some other websites and gift ideas at the beginning of the week so scroll down if you still have time to shop and send. Nunu chocolates are high on the list.
Then she LOVES chocolates! Especially dark chocolate caramels with sweet gooey centers…so much that if you buy her chocolates in Burge, Belgium and carry them around a two week Eurorail trip, and they somehow get smashed, she’ll still eat them and love them to bits.
Ever since I’ve moved to NYC, I’ve been trying to figure out who has the best chocolates…I know…sometimes I really tackle the hard hitting issues…the really dangerous topics…the highly controversial! And, of course, this has required a LOT of sacrifice on my part. In an effort to find THE best for old ma Mere, I get her dark chocolate caramels from a different chocolatier (or choc-lottery as my friend’s cousin calls them) each year. In the past I’ve tried Jacques Torres (amazing) La Maison Du Chocolate (divine), Marriebelle (beautiful packaging, tropical flavors and a fabulous showroom), Teuscher (incredible champagne truffles…but caramels…not so much), Pierre Marcolini (life changing-especially the raspberry hearts!) so this year it’s a neighborhood favorite: NUNU chocolates. They started out in a farmers market and have graduated to a brick and mortar store! AND it just so happens that they specialize in chocolate covered caramels! Of all different shapes and sizes! Ma Mere will be TRES please!
Here’s a great guide to gifts in the NYC area. If you don’t live in NYC or your mom doesn’t you can get most stores to ship to you.
