Lou Carlozo of the Chicago Tribune just became part of the story. He had been covering the recession in a series called “The Recession Diaries”. As his 20 year stint at the Tribune comes to an end, the extra mean salt in his wounds is that Chicago Tribune’s parent company is seeking permission to distribute $13.3 million in bonuses from Bankruptcy Court. Welcome to the glamorous world of blogging Carlozo!

*Neat* list of a bunch of side businesses you can get going with little or not start-up funds. Sites like Etsy.com, ebay, and craigslist have made it possible for everyone to find a market for almost every type of goods. Of course as far as making money, I would not recommend blogging 😀
There’s also a link to an article about how the author started his own side business. There are tons of excellent articles on this site, some that I’ve featured before via Consumerist. Worth taking a peep and an excellent site for these troubled times.
The Simple Dollar » 50 Side Businesses You Can Start On Your Own.
Well, not so much an article as a collection of super interesting stuff Consumerist put together. Pretty sure I’m not skimping “too much” since I’m on unemployment and broke…6 solid resources to find a job…need that…7 misconceptions about the stimulus-interesting. And then Things to buy before the economy improves! Won’t be looking at that…because I can’t afford to buy anything.
Money: Personal Finance Roundup.
This weekend a Consumerist Reader found a card skimmer on a WaMu ATM. It pays to keep your eyes open. I’ve recently had two fraud alerts that seem to have prevented my accounts and information from being exploited…again…but it pays to be vigilant.

Came across this little item via Consumerist:
Overpriced, ALL CAPS Book Inspires Amazon Reviewers
So naturally, I had to check it out-especially with a name like “Elyzabeth”. The reviews, particuarly page 2 with the ALL CAPS!!!, are worth a peep if you’re looking for LOL’s.
This *might* be my favorite…of the reviews that don’t use ALL CAPS…from Brother Russell the First:
If Aretha Franklin and C.S. Lewis had a child together and sent it off to Patrick Henry College and Liberty University, and then made it read William Peter Blatty’s “The Exorcist” 100 times in a row, then and only then would that child would be capable of writing such a spiritual blockbuster as BIRTH CONTROL IS SINFUL IN THE CHRISTIAN MARRIAGES AND ALSO ROBBING GOD OF PRIESTHOOD CHILDREN (or simply “BCISITCMAARGOPC”, as we in the publishing industry call it).
