If Dick Cheney, Godfather of the Apocalypse can support it, who can’t?

Dick Cheney came out as a supporter of gay marriage!  Of course, there’s a footnote…only if it’s deemed legal by the state and not fed.  I’ve taken family law and I understand the DOMA but I really think it’s beyond time that both the federal and state governments adopt gay marriage.  This country has denied full rights to gay citizens for far too long.

And then there were six! New Hampshire also passes a same sex marriage bill

Today was a big day for same sex marriage.  Both Maine and New Hampshire joined the ranks of Connecticut, Massachusetts, Vermont and Iowa in legalizing same sex marriage.  Is Rhode Island next?  The rest of the country?  I guess we’ll just have to see-one state at a time.  Let’s just hope there won’t be a Prop 8 problem in these states.  Such good news though!

UPDATE! Gov. John Baldacci signed the Bill into LAW!

Maine became the fifth state to legalize same sex marriage today!  Gov. John Baldacci signed the bill into law today.  He did point out that the decision would ultimately be up to the people of Maine but right now it’s not clear how the people of Maine might go about changing the law.  Excellent news and let’s hope that New Hampshire follows suit!

Maine passed a same-sex marriage law today which makes gay marriage legal in the state!  Gov. John Baldacci has to sign or veto the bill but has not given any hints as to what he might do.  Anyone know what Texas is up to?  I’ll have to check that out.  Someone said something really cryptic in the comments yesterday.  Speaking of…

Whoo-Hoo! DC Council Votes to Recognize Gay Marriage!

You know you’re on the right (read “correct”) side of an issue when Marion Barry is opposing it!  DC’s resident assclown was the lone vote against recognizing out-of-state gay marriages.  In an ideal world, DC would allow full marriage rights but recognizing out-of-state gay marriage is a nice first step.

As per usual, Marion Barry is on the wrong side of the issue…why?  Because he always is.  I learned as a DC voter YEARS ago…before I was even old enough to vote, that if he supported something, I should investigated it heavily and, more likely than not, vote the other way.  Guess what?  It works!  Pretty much ever issue he’s supported has been bad for the city.  And NOW he’s against same sex marriage in DC.  Why, do you ask?  Well OBVIOUSLY it’s because he’s such a MORAL politician.  Unless you were living under a rock for the entire of the 80′s and 90′s and even recently, you KNOW that he’s just about as far from a “MORAL” politician as you can get.  Not only did he smoke crack with a self-professed ‘crack whore’, but he accepted bribes, gave government contracts to family members, and ran the city into the ground.  Also, when did he dodge bullets during the civil rights movement?  He stood next to MLK a million years ago and that’s supposed to make the community he’s being been treating like shit forgive him for everything he’s done?  I think he’s ‘misremembering’ the bullets…those fly around the city he was mayor of ALL THE TIME.  So perhaps he was remembering DC…sans gay marriage…but full of drug wars and quickly climbing to the top of the murder rate.  Or maybe he was remembering getting robbed at gunpoint in June 2006.  Fortunately, his credit cards were all maxed out so they didn’t get very far on them-oh-that’s right!  He’s ALSO one of the millions of MORAL Americans who borrowed way more than they could ever pay back.  Also, how many times has he been married?  FOUR.  FOUR TIMES.  HOW can SOMEONE WHO’S BEEN MARRIED FOUR TIMES EVEN OPEN THEIR MOUTH TO TALK ABOUT THE SANCTITY OF MARRIAGE???

Gov. Patterson to give gay marriage a second go at the NY State legislature

Today Governor Paterson announced that he would be sending same-sex marriage legislation back to the legislature.  Gov. Spitzer sent similar legislation which passed the Assembly but stalled out in the Senate.  If the bill passes, NY could be the fifth state to legalize same-sex marriage by the end of June!  June is a beautiful month for weddings

Things that Make Jesus Cry

Below is an new ad AGAINST Gay Marriage that is set to air in NJ, NY, PA, NH, and Iowa.  First, why Iowa?  Isn’t that done?  Clearly this means they are gearing up to take this either back to the courts, or to the state legislature or to the voters themselves.

The Ad is frightening and I’m posting it as a reminder that this fight is NOT over…far from it.  Gay Marriage needs to be LEGAL in each and every state in the union.  The ideas communicated and reinforced by this ad are infuriating.  How is the government attacking NJ church groups?  Why would a doctor lose her job because of gay marriage?  I REALLY don’t understand how that one works…unless she’s denying health services to gay people…in which case she should lose her job.  And don’t worry MA mom, even if the schools teach your son that gay marriage is “ok” (which I highly doubt has become part of the curriculum) you can teach him as much hate and loathing at home as your heart desires! Oooh-or send him to Catholic school!  Pretty sure they aren’t teaching that gay marriage is “ok”.  Actually, they were against hetero sex for the most part when I was there so it’s sure to be a sex free zone (omitting the obvious priest/little boy joke).

Again, I really really really don’t understand why people are against gay marriage.  It has nothing to with your hetero marriage…it has nothing to do with your church…it has nothing to do with your kids…except that if your child is gay, they will grow up knowing that even though some people might not support their lifestyle, they have equal rights and protection under the law.

Vermont joins Iowa, Connecticut, and Massachusetts in legalizing Same Sex Marriage

Vermont became the first state to legalize same sex marriage via their legislature.  The state House and Senate voted overwhelmingly to override Governor’s veto of a gay marriage bill.  Congratulations Vermont.  Umm…New York?  Anyone?  Wtf is going on?  It’s not enough to just accept other state’s marriages…we need to legalize same sex marriage in our state.  There is no reason that our state’s citizens should have to travel out of state to get marriage.
